
Women’s Squash Player Andreea Ghiorghisor Finishes Run at the 2025 World Games

Rising sophomore represented Romania
NEW YORK – Columbia women's squash rising sophomore Andreea Ghiorghisor was one of 32 female athletes competing in the 2025 World Games in Chengdu, China. Her run came to an end in the consolation bracket on Monday morning.
The World Games are an international multi-sport event comprising sports and sporting disciplines that are not contested in the Olympic Games. They are usually held every four years, one summer after the Summer Olympic Games, over 11 days.
Athletes are selected to compete at The World Games by their sport's international federation, as opposed to their sport's national governing body or National Olympic Committee. Ghiorghisor is one of 32 women and 32 men competing in squash.
Competing for her native country of Romania, Ghiorghisor opened the competition falling to Hong Kong's Ka Yi Lee, 3-0, in the round of 32. She fell to 0-2 in the tournament with a loss at the hands of Colombia's Lucia Bautista in the Round of 16 Plate Match.
On Aug. 10, she defeated China's Linglu Cheng 3-1 in the Quarterfinals of the Consolation Plate. In her final match of the tournament, she fell to China's Ziyuan Yin 3-0 in the Consolation Plate Semifinals.
