NEW YORK — Columbia fencing has announced its team captains for the 2025–26 season. A decorated group of Lions standouts,
Bogdan Hamilton (foil),
Nick Harvey (sabre),
Sofia Gaydos (foil),
Tierna Oxenreider (epee),
Tamar Gordon (sabre),
Samarth Kumbla (foil), and
Skyler Liverant (epee) will lead the program as it looks to remain one of the premier programs in the nation.
"Each of these student-athletes has worked hard to embody our core values, excellence, accountability, and a commitment to helping their teammates be at their very best," Columbia head coach Michael Aufrichtig said. "They've proven themselves as competitors on the strip, and I know they will be great leaders who elevate our entire program."
Hamilton enters his senior season after an impressive 2024–25 campaign, during which he posted a 22–3 dual meet record and competed at the Ivy League Round Robins. An Olympian with Team Canada at the 2024 Paris Games, he previously went 25–8 in duals as a sophomore.
Harvey has been a steady presence in the men's sabre lineup throughout his career. He competed at both the Ivy League Round Robins and the NCAA Northeast Regional in 2025, following a 2023–24 season in which he helped Columbia win the Ivy League Team Championship. As a first-year, Harvey burst onto the scene with a 42–24 dual record.
Kumbla has established himself as one of the top foilists in collegiate fencing. The 2025 season saw him claim All-America honors with a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Championships and a 10-2 record at Round Robins to repeat as Ivy League Individual Champion. In 2024, Kumbla earned First Team All-America status with a semifinal run at NCAAs and helped the Lions to the Ivy League title.
Liverant returns as one of Columbia's most consistent epeeists. In 2025, he earned Second Team All-Ivy honors after placing fourth at the NCAA Northeast Regional. He was a First Team All-Ivy selection in 2024, helping the Lions secure the conference crown, and qualified for the NCAA Championships in both 2023 and 2024.
Gaydos is coming off another strong season in which she finished fifth at the NCAA Northeast Regional and posted a 27–6 dual meet record. She was part of Columbia's Ivy League title run in 2024 and has been a consistent presence in both regular-season and postseason competition.
Gordon adds leadership in sabre following a season in which she placed fifth at the NCAA Championships and earned her second consecutive All-America honor. She also captured bronze at the NCAA Northeast Regional and went undefeated at the Brian Palestis Memorial Meet. In 2024, Gordon was a key contributor to Columbia's Ivy League title run.
One of the most decorated Lions in recent history, Oxenreider has earned NCAA silver medals in back-to-back seasons while claiming All-America honors each year of her career. She captured the 2025 Ivy League Individual Women's Epee Championship and the NCAA Northeast Regional gold. A two-time First Team All-American, she also helped Columbia win the Ivy League crown in 2024.
