No. 12 Men’s Tennis Routs Bears to Open ECAC Indoor Championships

Lions sweep Brown to advance to Saturday’s semifinal against Cornell/Yale

PRINCETON, N.J. – The 12th-ranked Columbia men's tennis team needed little time to dispatch Ivy League foe Brown in the opener of the ECAC Indoor Championships at the Lenz Tennis Center, defeating the Bears 4-0 on Friday morning.

Columbia (4-3) took control of the match on the jump, taking the doubles point with wins on courts 3 and 1. The 25th-ranked duo of Thanaphat Boosarawongse and Aditya Govila quickly dispatched Brown's (6-2) duo of Theo Murphy and Elliott Wasserman 6-1

No. 54 Nicolas Kotzen and Andrew Ena clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 win over Ivan Soder and Zander Bravo. Sachin Palta and Michael Zheng were tied 6-6 when their match went unfinished.

In singles play, No. 3 Michael Zheng gave the Lions a 2-0 lead with a straight sets win over Sodan, 6-2, 6-2. No. 37 Sachin Palta moved the Lions one step closer to the win with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Noah Hernandez on court three.

Aditya Govila improves to 15-9 on the year in singles play and 5-2 in the spring with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Bravo on court six to seal the win for the Lions.

No. 25 Nicolas Kotzen was leading 6-2, 5-4 over Lukas Phimvongosa on court two when the match was finished.

Columbia returns to action for the semifinals tomorrow afternoon when they take on the winner of Cornell and Yale. Saturday's match is scheduled for a 3 p.m. first serve.
