Cesar Alvan Named Ivy League Wrestler of the Week

Senior earns the honor for the second time this season
NEW YORK – Columbia wrestling senior Cesar Alvan has been named the Ivy League Wrestler of the Week. It is the second time this season and the third time in his career that he has earned Wrestler of the Week honors.
The native of Ludlow, Mass., once again went 2-0 this week with a pair of wins via decision. Both wins proved to be the catalysts for Columbia's victories over then-No. 22 Cornell and Arizona State.
Against the Big Red, Alvan defeated Louis Cerchio in a 7-3 decision. The win helped the Lions come back from an 18-6 deficit, en route to Columbia's first win over Cornell since February 7, 1986.
Later that afternoon, Alvan upset No. 12 Nico Ruiz with a 4-1 win in overtime, sparking the Lions' comeback win over the Sun Devils.
The two wins give Alvan 22 for the year and 76 for his career. He improved to 7-3 in duals this season and is now 3-0 in Ivy League action.
The Lions will return to action on Saturday, February 14, when they host Harvard in the Columbia Blue Gym. That match is scheduled for 12 p.m.
