Lions remain undefeated in conference play
NEW YORK – The 34th-ranked Columbia men's tennis team got a resounding win over No. 37 Princeton on Sunday, winning 4-0 at the Philip & Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center.
With the win, Columbia improves to 14-6 in dual matches. The Lions have won five in a row and are 4-0 in Ivy League play. The Lions also avenge an earlier loss, when Princeton defeated Columbia 4-3 in the finals of the ECAC Indoor Championships on February 15.
The Lions jumped out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to stellar play in the doubles point. The Lions duo of Thanaphat Boosarawongse and Abhishek Thorat set the tone with a 6-2 win over Sebastian Sec and Aleksander Mitric.
Sachin Palta and Andrew Ena quickly followed, defeating Evan Wen and Meecha Bigun 6-2. With the win, Palta and Ena improve to 4-0 as playing partners. On court one, Nicolas Kotzen and Michael Zheng were tied 5-5 with Paul Inchausep and Fnu Nidunjianzan when the match was abandoned.
In singles play, Columbia carried the momentum. Abhishek Thorat and Thanaphat Boosarawongse gave the Lions a 3-0 lead with a pair of straight-set wins.
Thortat defeated Milan Markovits 6-4, 6-2 on court No. 5, followed by Boosarawongse, who defeated Aleksander Mitric, 6-3, 6-2 on court No. 4.
No. 9 Michael Zheng took care of business on court No. 1, defeating the 13th-ranked Inchauspe, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
Columbia returns to action on Saturday, April 18, when Harvard comes to the Milstein Family Tennis Center. Saturday's match against the Crimson is scheduled for a 1 p.m. first serve.
