No. 37 Men’s Tennis Takes Down Bulldogs

Lions capture big road win to remain unbeaten in conference play
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The 37th-ranked Columbia men's tennis team jumped out to a 4-0 lead and eventually went on to win the match 5-2 over No. 39 Yale at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center on Sunday.
With the win, Columbia improves to 12-6 in dual matches this year and is now 2-0 in Ivy League play. Columbia has also won three in a row.
The Lions jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a strong showing in doubles play. Aditya Govila and Thanphat Boosarwongse reunited as doubles partners and quickly defeated the duo of Eric Li and Jim Ji, 6-2.
Sachin Palta and Andrew Ena clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Jason Shuler and Dylan Tsoi on court No. 2. Michael Zheng and Nicolas Kotzen were tied 5-5 with Vignesh Gogineni and Edward Liao when their match went unfinished.
In singles play, the Lions' first years quickly made it 3-0 in favor of Columbia with a pair of straight-sets wins. Govila defeated Tsoi 6-3, 6-2 on court No. 6. Thorat followed with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Ji Zhengqing on court No. 5.
Gogineni made it 3-1 Bulldogs, with a 7-6(3), 6-3 win over Zheng at court No. 1.
Kotzen clinched the match for Columbia, coming back in the second set to win in a tie-breaker, 6-3, 7-6(1) over Liao on court No. 2.
The match continued with Eric Li defeating Boosarawongse 7-5, 4-6, 1-0. Palta closed it out with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Jason Shuler.
Columbia returns to action on Friday, April 10, when they travel to the Hamlin/Hecht Tennis Centers to battle No. 40 Penn. That match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
