Men’s Tennis Has Strong Fall Debut at Bulldog Invitational

Gray and Kelley shine in collegiate debut
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Columbia men's tennis opened its fall season with a strong showing at the Bulldog Invitational, earning multiple singles and doubles victories across three days of competition against opponents from Fairfield, NJIT, Yale and Quinnipiac.
The Lions opened the tournament with a pair of doubles victories on Day 1. Jordan Chang and Andrew Ena defeated Fairfield's Calum Jessett and Kacper Krolikowski, 6-4, while Gray Kelley and Charlie Valentine topped NJIT's Soma Fukuhara and Yerassyl Bahktiyar, 6-2.
Columbia swept all four singles matches on the opening day. Kelley defeated Fairfield's Diego Alcala, 6-1, 6-1, while Ena earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Kacper Krolikowski. Valentine defeated NJIT's Riccardo Campagnola, 6-3, 6-4, and Chang topped Yerassyl Bahktiyar, 6-4, 6-2.
On Day 2, Chang and Ena continued their doubles success with a 6-3 win over NJIT's Campagnola and Guimares. In singles, Ena edged Yale's Chung in two tiebreaks, 7-6(4), 7-6(5), while Kelley defeated Yale's Assi, 6-3, 4-6, 10-7. Chang added a 6-0, 6-1 victory over NJIT's Ridan, while Valentine fell to Fukuhara in a third-set tiebreaker.
The Lions closed the afternoon session with a sweep of Quinnipiac in singles and doubles. Chang and Ena earned a 6-3 doubles win over Burridge and Pikulin, while Kelley and Valentine defeated Hendrajanto and Hoxha by the same score.
Columbia won all four singles matches against Quinnipiac, with Kelley defeating Prakash, 6-2, 6-1, and Ena topping Hoxha, 6-2, 6-1. Valentine added a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Radojicic, while Chang defeated Sciacca, 6-2, 6-1.
On the final day, Valentine defeated Quinnipiac's Prakash, 6-3, 7-6(5), while Kelley earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over NJIT's Campagnola. Chang fell to Yale's Ethan Chung, 6-1, 6-3, and Ena dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to NJIT's Kaliterna.
In doubles, both Columbia pairs were edged in tiebreakers. Chang and Ena fell to Yale's Ji and Chung, 7-6(4), while Kelley and Valentine dropped a 7-6(4) decision to NJIT's Campagnola and Kaliterna.
The Bulldog Invitational marked Columbia's first competition of the fall season, providing the Lions with an opportunity to compete against regional opponents in singles and doubles.
The Lions return to action later this week when Damir Zhalgasbay and Thanaphat Boosarawongse compete in the ITF Futures M15 in Ann Arbor, Mich. The duo will learn their draw on Monday.
