THE SERIES
This is the 22nd meeting between Columbia and St. John's. The Red Storm leads the series 14-7, with the Lions' last win coming during the 1978-79 season (90-77). St. John's won the last meeting 71-55 on November 23, 1998. The series dates back to the 1916-17 season.
IN THE CITY OF NEW YORK
There is no greater place to play than the "World's Most Famous Arena," Madison Square Garden. So for the second straight year, Columbia is a proud participant in the Panasonic Holiday Festival. Last year, the Lions gave North Carolina State University all it could handle, but eventually fell 84-74 in the first round of the Festival. Columbia then defeated Canisius 64-58 in the consolation game.
LOOK AND LISTEN
The Holiday Festival games will air on the Madison Square Garden Network, with Kenny Albert and Bucky Waters calling the action while Bill Daughtry reports from the sidelines. Live streaming video of each contest is available on the MSG website, msgnetwork.com. The game will also air on Radio Disney 1560-AM, with Mike Crispino, Brandon Tierney and Tarik Turner calling the action. The radio pregame show begins at 5:35 p.m. Live audio is available on WKCR, 89.8 FM and off the WKCR internet feed at www.gocolumbialions.com.
THIS IS A TEST
The Lions not only had to contend with preparing for their two Big East opponents this season, but exams as well. The 14 student-athletes had 31 exams in a 48-hour period, 12/19-12/20.
DROUGHT VS. BIG EAST
Columbia's last win vs. the Big East was a 58-54 win at Seton Hall in the 1985-86 season. Since then, the Lions are 0-16 against Big East teams.
