Columbia University and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education are committed to the student-athlete experience. This concept is based upon a fundamental, ethical, educational, and practical belief in the integrity and value of both academic and athletic endeavors. Student-athletes are first and foremost students who are highly committed to both their academic and athletic lives. The Columbia Athletics Department commits itself to assisting student-athletes in creating that balance by providing academic counseling, tutoring, and other support resources in partnership with the student-athlete's assigned advisor.

The Office of Enrichment Services facilitates various services to assist student-athletes academically:
- One-on-one academic support meetings with Enrichment Services staff, in addition to individual guidance from Advising Dean (who serves as the student-athlete's primary academic advisor)
- Free, individual tutoring available for all student-athletes in need of academic assistance - one hour per week in up to two classes
- Academic support through athletic travel schedules and injuries
- Support through the class registration process
