OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENT TRAINERS
Columbia University Sports Medicine serves as a clinical site for educational programs in athletic training. Columbia currently serves as a site to allow athletic training students clinical experience with management of our athletic teams and under the direct supervision of our staff athletic trainers as preceptors. This experiential learning opportunity allows students from different institutions to complete their clinical education hours at Columbia as they develop their clinical expertise in prevention, emergency care, diagnosis, referral, immediate treatment and therapeutic rehabilitation of injuries and illness associated with participation in sport. They will also learn the daily operations and continued administrative maintenance required for the health of our student-athletes.
Our staff takes pride in teaching future athletic trainers and we know that their experience at Columbia will enhance their learning in a practical and hands-on approach. The goal is to provide a clinical experience that allows students to apply knowledge and skills with real-life situations under the direct supervision of a preceptor. As the student increases their time spent at our clinical site they will take on more responsibility leading towards a near-independent practice.
