Counseling and Psychological Services
Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS) supports the psychological and emotional well-being of the Columbia campus community by providing counseling, consultation and crisis intervention — all of which adhere to strict standards of confidentiality. WIthin CPS, the Athletics Special Interest Group is composed of Counseling and Psychological Services providers with a shared interest in athletics and sports.

SVR provides trauma-informed, confidential support, and prevention programs focused on ending gender and power-based violence. SVR creates social change through collective community action, building a compassionate and accountable community, with a commitment to increasing resources and support for survivors and co-survivors of violence.

Columbia Health and CUIMC Student Health Service offer external resources that are not diagnostic but are meant to be educational and to help you better understand behavior. Columbia does not endorse or accept responsibility for external websites.
  • Self-assessments from CUIMC Student Health Service - Take self-screening/online questionnaires about depression, anxiety, trauma, substance abuse, eating disorders and attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder. These do not substitute assessments with a mental health professional.
  • Sleep Assessment and Resources - Take an online sleep assessment to get real-time personalized feedback, start your own sleep diary, access sleep tips and resources, and send personalized sleep e-cards. From Alice! Health Promotion.
  • Alcohol Self-Assessment - Complete a quick online questionnaire and optionally participate in the Brief Alcohol Screening & Intervention of College Students (BASICS) one-on-one sessions, free and open to all Columbia University students.

The Rosemary Furman Counseling Center
The Furman Counseling Center promotes the social and emotional development of Barnard students to facilitate their richest experience of College Life. We offer free therapy, groups, workshops and medication to assist students in maintaining emotional and mental health. We support the College’s commitment to diversity, raising awareness of systems of oppression and unequal access to resources, and work to promote social justice.

The Wellness Spot

Denise LeFrak Foundation Alcohol and Substance Awareness Program serves the Barnard Community providing drug and alcohol education, prevention, and intervention efforts on campus. We offer both individual and group counseling at no charge; and all of our services are confidential.

BEING Barnard Violence Prevention Program
The mission of Being Barnard is to provide a holistic approach to sexual violence prevention through campus-wide campaigns, educational programming, one-on-one health consultation services, community building, outreach, advocacy, and intervention.

    • Come in to seek support; ask questions about sexuality, relationships, identity, boundary  setting, etc.; seek referrals to on and off-campus resources
  • One on one interpersonal and sexual wellness education sessions
    • These 1-hour appointments are a great way to explore those questions and so much more in a shame-free, supportive environment.
