As you are likely aware, the costs of higher education have climbed significantly over the last decade. Because of Columbia's significant endowment, many families who apply for financial aid receive generous packages that make attending feasible. As a prospective student-athlete, it's very important that you consider the costs associated with attending a non-scholarship institution. Understanding the financial aid process, how it's determined and if Columbia is affordable should be a family discussion. I implore to take the time to read Columbia's financial aid statement and use the online calculators to estimate how much aid you might be eligible for.
Intro to Columbia University Financial Aid
1. Learn how financial aid works at Columbia. Financial aid at Columbia is all need-based. This means that we offer financial aid after evaluating your family’s ability to pay based on the information in your financial aid application. We meet full demonstrated financial need for all four years, and our need-based aid is in the form of grants and student work only, not loans. There are no academic, athletic or talent-based institutional scholarships. Read more on our website: http://ccseas.financialaid.columbia.edu/.
2. Get a preview of your potential net cost. We provide two online options to help you quickly estimate your net cost and financial aid eligibility – a 3-minute cost estimator and the more detailed Net Price Calculator. Our online calculators are an important first step for families, but they cannot factor in all of your unique financial circumstances; we strongly encourage all recruited athletes who plan to apply for financial aid to participate in the Early Estimate Process.
