Alex Zurabishvili is in his fifth year with the Columbia fencing program as its epee coach.
He has been on the staff for the 2020 women's and 2022 men's Ivy League Championship squads and has coached four epeeists to All-American honors with the Lions.

Named to his current post on September 9, 2019, Zurabishvili has worked as an epee coach for over 20 years, most recently completing a 14-year stint at the Fencing Academy of Westchester in Hawthorne, New York. He has served as the head epee coach at the Tim Moorhouse Fencing Academy in Port Chester, New York.

"In the 15 years I have known Alex, he has developed top cadet and junior epee fencers in America," Aufrichtig stated. "I am confident that Columbia Fencing will benefit tremendously with his transition into college fencing, helping our program win Ivy and NCAA Team Championships."

Before coming to Columbia, Zurabishvili worked with the United States National Team as a Designated Coach for the Junior Men's and Women's Epee Teams in both 2017 and 2018. Three of his four teams won gold medals in their respective competitions at both the World Cup in San Juan, Puerto Rico and at the Pan American Championship in Costa Rica. He has developed several members of the U.S. World Championship Fencing Team, including current Columbia fencer Teddy Lombardo.

A three-time National Epee Champion with the Georgian National Fencing Team, Zurabishvili has gone on to specialize in epee training for students of all levels. As a coach, he has developed and trained several U.S. national team members.

Zurabishvili is a graduate of Georgia University of Physical Education and Sport in Tbilisi, Georgia, where he completed his degree in Physical Education and Coaching/Fencing in 1997.
