- Graduate Assistant Coach
William Jedediah “Jed” Dupree, one of the finest fencers in Columbia’s storied history, returned to Morningside Heights in 2005 as a graduate assistant coach. Now in his second season, the 27-year old Dupree is pursuing graduate studies in Columbia’s creative writing program.
Five years after graduation, Dupree still ranks among the nation’s top men’s foil fencers. Ranked third nationally among Senior Men’s Foil fencers, he won the 2002 and 2005 Division I national championships, earned a team gold medal in the 2003 Pan American Games, and has been a perennial member of U.S. Senior World Championships teams.
Dupree was a four-time All-American for Columbia, capping his career when he won the NCAA Men’s Foil Championship in 2001, his senior year. That feat earned him first team All-American honors. He was twice second team All-American, and honorable mention once.
He was 31-4 in regular-season competition as a junior and 31-5 as a senior, making first team All-Ivy League each season. He also was an Academic All-Ivy selection.
The Bethlehem, Pa., native earned the 2001 Connie S. Maniatty Award as Columbia’s outstanding senior male student-athlete.
