Amy Marteney, ATC, RD, CSSD was named Columbia’s Director of Sports Nutrition in November 2015.

In this role, Marteney leads the development and implementation of the Columbia University Athletics Sports Nutrition program. The Director of Sports Nutrition is responsible for providing performance nutrition education and guidance to all 31 varsity sports programs, along with the implementation and oversight of Columbia Athletics’ Fueling Initiative.

Marteney arrived at Columbia after having served as the campus dietitian and sports nutritionist for 16 NCAA Division I athletic teams at St. Johns University from 2013-15. Marteney’s responsibilities at St. John’s ranged from individual nutritional counseling for student-athletes and team education sessions to creating team training tables and developing pre-game and travel menus.

Prior to arriving at St. John’s, Marteney completed a dietetic internship at the University of Connecticut where she chose her specialty rotation in sports nutrition with UConn Athletics.

Marteney earned her bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from SUNY Cortland, before becoming a Certified Athletic Trainer in 2008. While working part time as an athletic trainer with a growing passion for sports nutrition, she completed her master’s degree in Nutrition Science and Dietetics from Syracuse University in 2010.

Additionally, Marteney received her Registered Dietitian credential in 2011 and became a Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) in 2014. She is also an active member of the Collegiate and Professional Sports Dietitians Association (CPSDA).

Marteney’s sport of choice was figure skating where she skated competitively for over 10 years, including two years while attending college. Once her figure skating career was over, she went on to complete two half-marathons and took up a passion for hiking and cycling. As a former competitive athlete and advocate of maintaining an active lifestyle as part of overall well-being, Marteney understands that a strong nutrition foundation plays an immense role in overall health and achieving peak athletic performance.

Marteney recently welcomed her first child with husband Zach, and lives in Yonkers, N.Y.
