Mary Long will play a critical role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the Success Through Well-Being team. She will have both administrative and student-facing responsibilities, and will support the Success Through Well-Being team in communicating with key stakeholders.
Specifically, Long will be responsible for executing key administrative tasks for the Success Through Well-Being unit, and collaborating with team members to support programming, events, student-athlete affinity groups/special interests groups, and day-to-day unit needs. Long will be in charge of managing and sending Success Through Well-Being communication to coaches, staff, and student-athletes. Additionally, Long will manage the Success Through Well-Being social media content.
Long graduated from Columbia with a master’s degree from the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) with a specialization in Gender and Public Policy. No stranger to Columbia Athletics, Long previously worked as a marketing assistant and was a co-founding member of the Columbia Chapter of Voice in Sport during her time as a Columbia graduate student. Long’s other professional experience includes serving as an advocacy, operations, and social media intern at the Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) in 2023, and with Athletes’ Voices, where she created and supported campaigns surrounding social justice, mental health, and gun violence awareness in 2022-23.
Prior to returning to Columbia, Long served as a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging Fellow with Illinois Athletics. During her time with the Fighting Illini, she contributed to student-athlete development programming and community-building initiatives.
Long graduated from the University of Denver with a bachelor's degree from the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics with a focus in Integrated Science and Psychology.
