Sean Smith is in his third season on the Columbia women's basketball staff, having been hired in June of 2023. After serving as Director of Video and Analytics for two years, Smith is now the Director of Program Development.
In his video and analytics role, Smith was in charge of all team video operations and leads a team of data analysts to deliver insights that drive game strategy, player development, and drive discussion among the coaching staff. He works closely with the staff and players to interpret and apply advanced analytics, leading to actionable changes that propel long-term team success. In his first season in Morningside Heights, he played a key role in the program's first-ever NCAA tournament appearance.
Previously, Smith worked with the University of North Texas Men’s Basketball Team, where he livecoded all games and practices, providing real-time video and data analysis to support coaching decisions. Smith also contributed to the team winning the 2023 NIT Championship.
Prior to his work at the University of North Texas, he worked as a student manager for the University of Dayton Women’s Basketball Team.
