PELHAM, N.Y. -- Lightweight rowing's final home racing event of the spring, the Subin Cup regatta against Dartmouth scheduled for Sunday morning, has been postponed due to "unsafe racing conditions".
Head lightweight coach Marc DeRose made the decision shortly after the regatta was scheduled to begin, citing "high winds, a heavy downpour, and high waves", all apparent from the starting point off Glen Island.
DeRose noted that the Subin Cup may be rescheduled for the weekend of April 29-30 in Worcester, Mass. The Lions are slated to race Georgetown and Rutgers next Saturday, April 29, on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J.
The Columbia lightweights had posted impressive showings the past two weeks, losing to Yale, the defending national lightweight champion, by just 2.5 seconds in the Dodge Cup on Mercer Lake April 15, and then regaining the Geiger Cup from Cornell when they defeated the Big Red, as well as Delaware, at Orchard Beach yesterday, April 22.
A decision on rescheduling the Subin Cup is expected in midweek. It will be announced on www.GoColumbiaLions.com.
