
Men's Basketball To Open Season At Cameron Indoor Stadium

The 2006-07 Columbia men's basketball schedule, announced today, features two tournaments and two Big East match-ups.
The Lions, who return all five starters from last year, open the season in the College Basketball Experience Classic. Columbia will play in the Duke University bracket at Cameron Indoor Stadium, along with Georgia Southern and UC Davis. Marquette, Stanford and Texas Tech serve as the other three host schools.
Tentatively, the Lions will face Duke in the opening game at 8:30 p.m. on November 12. The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
The second game will be on Nov. 13, time to be announced.
Columbia returns to New York to host the third annual Tyler Ugolyn Columbia Classic on Nov. 17-18. Kennesaw State and St. Peter's College will meet in the first game at 5 p.m., and the Lions will take on NJIT in the second game. The consolation will be at 5 p.m. on Sat., Nov. 18, and the championship game will immediately follow.
The Lions then host local rivals Long Island University and Stony Brook, before traveling to Providence to close out November.
St. John's headlines December, with the Lions traveling to Queens on Dec. 23, just after Sacred Heart and Wagner visit Levien Gym and a quick road trip to Lafayette on Dec. 11. The Lions travel to Brooklyn, N.Y. to meet St. Francis to end 2006.
Lehigh and Marywood are the Lions' last two games before the grueling Ivy League season commences.
