NEW YORK – Columbia sophomore guard Noruwa Agho claimed his third Ivy League Player of the Week award, the league office announced today. Agho shares the award this week with Harvard's Jeremy Lin after the Lion sharpshooter averaged 26.5 points in two Columbia road victories this week. He was also named the ECAC Player of the Week on Tuesday, sharing the honor with Georgetown's Greg Monroe.
Agho started his week by scoring a career-high 30 points in Columbia's win at Wagner on Tuesday, December 8. In the game, Agho made 11-of-16 from the field, and four of six from three-point range and all four of his free throws. He added a season-best four assists and made two steals.
In Saturday's 69-57 win at Bryant, Agho scored 15 of his 23 points in the second half, helping the Lions pull away after Columbia led by three at halftime. Agho added two more steals in the Bryant game and now has a team-best 13 steals this season.
Agho continued his great start to the season, shooting 71.4 percent (20-of-28) from the field in the two games, and 66.7 percent (6-of-9) from three-point range as he remained the nation's top three-point shooter at 64.4 percent from beyond the arc.
"He might be one of the best shooters in the country that no one is talking about," ESPN.com's Andy Katz wrote on Saturday.
As a team, the Lions are shooting 47.3 percent from three-point range, which is also the best in the country.
Columbia improved its record to 5-4 with those two road wins, heading into a break for final exams. Next up for the Lions is a game at Quinnipiac on Wednesday, December 23 at 7 p.m.
