NEW YORK ? Columbia head men's basketball coach Joe Jones was one of the featured speakers at the New Jersey Association for College Admission Counseling workshop on Monday, May 11, presenting on the topic "Is the Mission of Intercollegiate Athletics Keeping with the Mission of Higher Education?"

Along with several collegiate head coaches and administrators from the New York metropolitan area, Jones spoke about Columbia's 2008-09 season and touched on coaching at the Division I level.

Many topics were discussed during the hour-long session, including student-athletes' time management, building character, recruiting and the role that college athletics plays in preparation for a student-athlete's future.

Jones recently completed his sixth season at Columbia, where the Lions will return 11 letterwinners from a team that finished fourth in the Ivy League this past season.
