Evan Cassidy Selected to Compete at United States U-23 Men's National Team Training Camp

NEW YORK -- Columbia University men's heavyweight crew member Evan Cassidy has been selected to train at the United States U-23 National Team Camp in Oklahoma City, Okla. The senior-to-be is one of just 32 student-athletes from around the country that earned the right to compete at the camp, and one of 12 from the Ivy League.
Cassidy sat in the stroke seat for the varsity eight boat that earned five Cup victories in 2009, including a Childs Cup triumph for the first time in 46 years. For his efforts, Cassidy was named the Columbia University Student-Athlete of the Month for April.
At the camp in Oklahoma City, Cassidy will be vying for a chance to represent the United States in the Czech Republic at the 2009 FISA World Under-23 Championships on July 23-26. This camp will select the open men's 8+, 4- and 4x that will take part in the event, and also the open men's 2-, 4+ and 2x to compete at U23 Trials July 6-10 at Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J.
Athletes selected in the M8+, M4-, and M4x will move to Princeton, N.J., to train alongside the senior team for final preparation for the U23 World Championships. The date to move to Princeton has yet to be announced. The team will leave for world championships around July 18.
