WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Columbia women's tennis team had its exceptional run at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships come to a disappointing end, as the Lions fell in both the singles and doubles finals Tuesday.
In the singles finals, two first-year collegiate players in
Columbia's Kanika Vaidya andPrinceton's Amanda Muliawan went head-to-head for
the title. The match remained close throughout, but it was Muliawan that was
able to come away with the 6-4, 6-4 victory.
Columbia's Bianca Sanon and Tiana Takenaga also played valiantly Tuesday, but Penn's Sol Eskenazi and Sonya Latyecheva secured an 8-6 win in the doubles finals.
With their wins, Muliawan, as well as Eskenazi and Latyecheva, will advance on to the USAT/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships that Columbia will be hosting at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, Nov. 8-11.
