Lowdown on the Lions
Columbia improved to 5-5 on the year and 1-0 in the Ivy League after topping Cornell, 3-1, Saturday, Sept. 27.
Bailey Springer ranks third in the league with 3.12 kps while Katarina Jovicic (2.15 kps) and Atlanta Moye-McLaren (2.06 kps) contribute over 2.00 kps each to the Lions' 11.79 kps. Jovicic has connected on 73 of 162 attempts to boast the third-best hitting percentage in the conference (.358) with Jennifer Petrovich's 9.00 aps placing third.
Columbia receives the fifth-best dig per set average amongst the Ivies in senior Charlee Dyroff (3.97). Jovicic and Kesi Neblett add to the Lions' defense with 0.97 bps and 0.67 bps, respectively.
Quality Time with the Quakers
Penn looks to snap a three-match skid and remains in search of its first conference win entering Friday night's match at 3-9, 0-1 Ivy League. Alexis Genske has paced the Quakers' attack with 2.90 kps and contributes a team-best 0.80 bps at the net. Aimee Stephenson has chipped in 2.08 kps while Emmy Friedler leads the defensive with 3.78 dps. Ronnie Bither and Alex Caldwell have split time at setter handing out 5.00 aps and 4.68 aps, respectively.
Inside the Series with Penn
In a series that began in 1988, Columbia trails Penn, 4-39. The Lions look to avenge the team's last meeting, a 0-3 setback at the Palestra Nov. 2, 2013.
Tidbit About the Tigers
Princeton swept Penn to open its Ivy League slate and enter the weekend 6-5 overall, and 1-0 in conference play. Kendall Peterkin has led the Tigers' offense with a team and conference-best 4.32 kps. The three-time Ivy League Player of the Week has been assisted by the league's assist per set leader, Lauren Miller, who dishes out 10.57 aps. On the defensive side, Sarah Daschbach has paced Princeton with 4.33 dps as Nicole Kincade has added 1.05 bps, the best average in the conference. Prior to Saturday's match, the Tigers entertain Cornell Friday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m.
Inside the Series with Princeton
Columbia and Princeton will meet for the 45th time on Saturday, with the Lions trailing the all-time series, 6-38. The Lions last victory over the Tigers came in 2012 when Columbia downed Princeton, 3-1.
Last Time Out
Columbia turned in a season-high 14 total blocks en route to a 3-1 victory over Cornell in its Ivy League opener in front of 475 fans at Levien Gymnasium Saturday, Sept. 27. The conference-opening win came by set scores of 20-25, 25-21, 25-12 and 25-20.
The 14 team blocks are the most for the Lions since Columbia totaled 18 in a 3-1 triumph over Harvard Nov. 15, 2013. Junior Katarina Jovicic led the Lions at the net with a career-best nine, which is the most for a single player since Savannah Fletcher '13CC recorded 11 in a 3-1 win at Brown Sept. 30, 2011. Sophomore Zoe Jacobs, who joined forces with Jovicic at the net for six blocks, contributed a career-high seven. The Lions' defense held Cornell to a .062 hitting percentage thanks in part to a 17-dig effort from senior Charlee Dyroff, who needs 68 digs to break Columbia's top-five all-time list with 829.
Jovicic also excelled offensively as the middle hitter tallied 10 kills on a .450 hitting clip. Bailey Springer also recorded 10 kills while sophomore Kesi Neblett chipped in eight. Jennifer Petrovich set-up the offense by dishing out 34 assists. The sophomore is now 48 shy of the 1,000 assist plateau.

Block Party
Columbia dominated the net in its Ivy League opener, post 14 total blocks against Cornell. The Lions have turned in double-digit blocking totals twice this year.
Katarina Jovicic posted a career-high nine blocks in the team's 3-1 win over the Big Red, marking the most blocks in a match for a single player since Savannah Fletcher '13CC totaled 11 at Brown on Sept. 30, 2011.
Jovicic's 0.97 bps puts her sixth in the Ivy League while Kesi Neblett ranks 15th in the conference with 0.67 bps. Columbia has combined for 1.97 bps as a team the fourth-best average among the Ivies.
Record Watch
In her final year in Columbia Blue, Charlee Dyroff looks to etch her name in the Lions record book. Currently, the senior sits on the cusp of Columbia's all-time digs list with 762. The Boulder, Colorado, local needs 67 digs to break into the top-five (829). This season, Dyroff averages 3.97 dps, which is good for fifth in the Ancient Eight.
Setting It Up
As the Lions' primary setter, Jennifer Petrovich has dished out the third-best assists per set average in the league with 9.00 handouts to lead Columbia to a .191 hitting percentage, which lands fifth in the Ivy League.
Club 1,000
Jennifer Petrovich has dished out 952 career assists and needs just 48 more to become the newest member of Columbia's 1,000 assist club. The Lions have not had a single player eclipse the 1,000-assist plateau since Kelsey Mussleman '13CC did so in 2010.
High Percentage
Katarina Jovicic hit a season-high .571 in the team's 3-2 setback at Connecticut, registering eight kills on 14 attempts with no errors. Jovicic's career-best hitting clip of .583 came Sept. 14, 2012 against Colgate (17-324). Currently the middle hitter ranks third in the Ivy League with a .358 hitting percentage and has hit over .300 in every outing except one. The Lions rank fifth in the conference with a .191 percentage.
Lions at Levien
Columbia has posted a perfect 4-0 record inside the friendly confines of Levien Gymnasium this season. The last time the Lions won four straight at home was a five-match stretch from Sept. 14-28, 2012 that included victories over Colgate (3-1), Rhode Island (3-0), Hofstra (3-2), Cornell (3-0) and Brown (3-2).
Opening the Ivy Gate
With its 3-1 victory over Cornell Saturday, Sept. 27, Columbia has won its Ivy League opener in four of the last six seasons with all of the wins coming against its Empire State Rival, the Big Red. The Lions hold a 5-22 all-time record in its first match against an Ancient Eight opponent and is 4-6 with head coach Brie Katz on the bench.
Seeing Double
Bailey Springer has contributed two double-double performances on the young season while Atlanta Moye-McLaren and Jennifer Petrovich recorded one apiece. These three Lions have notched double-doubles throughout their careers with Moye-McLaren leading the way with 11.
| Name Atlanta Moye-McLaren Jennifer Petrovich Bailey Springer |

All-Tourney
Atlanta Moye-McLaren was named Most Valuable Player at the Columbia Invitational and classmate Katarina Jovicic earned a spot on the all-tournament team after the duo helped the Lions go 3-0. Jovicic picked up her second all-tournament team accolade of the season when the middle hitting was selected to the UConn Classic team Sept. 20.
Hall of Famer
Columbia volleyball will see its first former player inducted into the Columbia University Athletics Hall of Fame this October as Kathy Lavold '03BC has been bestowed the honor.
