#ColumbiaGivingDay is Coming
10/15/2014 2:00:00 PM | General, Athletics Archives
Athletics raised over $1.8 million on Giving Day last year, 25% of the total dollars raised and 2nd among all schools and programs. This year, let's show the world how #LionsGiveBack!
New this year, Columbia's schools and programs will compete to gain the most “Advocates”—people who pledge to give to Columbia Athletics on Giving Day—in the two weeks prior to Giving Day. Starting Wednesday, Oct. 15, go to http://givingday.columbia.edu to pledge your support and become an Advocate for Columbia Athletics—and help us win a $10,000 prize.
We want to hear your story about why you give back. What inspires you? Who or what made a positive impact on your experience with Columbia Athletics? What do you want to support? Tell us in a video on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter (@GoColumbiaLions), using #ColumbiaGivingDay and #LionsGiveBack, and pass it on to a friend or two by nominating them to give their stories. Make sure to wear your best Columbia Athletics gear!
Giving Challenges
Like last year, Columbia Athletics is competing against other University schools and programs for a share of $200,000 in incentive funds.
The varsity sports programs are competing against each other for a share of a separate, additional $100,000. These financial challenges are based on dollars and donors to the varsity sports program AND to The Fund for Excellence. Here's the breakdown:
1. The more money a Varsity Sports Program raises, the more money that Varsity Sports Program earns.
2. The more money a Varsity Sports Program raises for The Fund for Excellence (in honor of that sport), the more money that Varsity Sports Program earns.
3. The three Varsity Sports Programs with the most donors who give to both the Varsity Sports Program and The Fund for Excellence earn prizes.
4. The two Varsity Sports Programs with the biggest percentage dollar increase from Giving Day 2013 earn prizes.
The higher the dollars and number of donors, the more the sports program has a chance to earn—and the better Columbia Athletics does against its University competitors!
