NEW YORK – The Columbia volleyball team is set to visit Brown and Yale this weekend. The Lions will travel to Providence, Rhode Island, Friday, Oct. 17 for a 7 p.m. match against the Bears before stopping by New Haven, Connecticut, Saturday, Oct. 17 for a 5 p.m. contest with the Bulldogs.
Ivy League Digital Network
Each of Columbia's 10 home matches and all the Lions Ivy League contests will be web streamed in HD quality featuring a live scoreboard and graphics through the Ivy League Digital Network. Fans who subscribe to the network can watch the Lions live or on-demand at Levien Gymnasium at their convenience. Lowdown on the Lions
After taking down Dartmouth, 3-1, Friday, Oct. 10, the Lions looked to remain perfect inside Levien Gymnasium this season when it took the floor Saturday, Oct. 11 against Harvard. The Lions went the distance with the Crimson, but could not outlast the visitors to fall to 7-7 overall and 3-2 in league action.
Junior Bailey Springer sits third in the league with 3.38 kps while classmate Katarina Jovicic ( 2.07 kps) contributes 2.07 kps to the Lions' 12.24 kps. Jovicic has connected on 92 of 201 attempts to boast the third-best hittinger percentage in the conference (.363) with Jennifer Petrovich's 9.66 aps also placing third.
Columbia excels at the net as the Lions sport the top blocks per set average with 2.23 bps as Jovicic leads the way with 1.13 bps, a conference best. Columbia's defense also receives the sixth-best digs per set average amongst the Ivies in senior Charlee Dyroff (4.25).
Where We Stand
Columbia heads into the weekend in a three-way tie with Dartmouth and Harvard for third place in the Ivy League standings with a 3-2-Ivy League mark. Princeton and Yale are evenly matched at the top of the league with 4-1 records each. Penn sits sixth at 2-3 while Brown's 1-4 mark is good for seventh. Cornell remains winless (0-5) in conference play to close out the standings.
Breaking Down the Bears
Brown is seventh in the Ivy League with a 6-11overall record and 1-4 conference mark after dropping a pair of matches last weekend at Princeton and Penn.
The Bears boast a balanced attached led by Maddie Lord (3.31 kps) and Payton Smith (2.56 kps). A threesome has shared the setting duties as Sarah Lucenti boasts a team best 5.54 aps while Maryl Vanden box and Rachele Killian have dished out 4.58 aps and 3.63 aps, respectively. Kathryn Conner sports a team-best 5.17 dps with Smith's 0.80 bps leading the way at the net.
Inside the Series with Brown
In 10 of the last 11 meetings between Columbia and Brown the Lions have come out victorious, however, the blue and white still trail the all-time series, 14-30. Columbia looks to avenge its last meeting with Brown, a 0-3 setback in Providence, Rhode Island Nov. 9, 2013.
Breaking Down the Bulldogs
Coming off a pair of wins last weekend at Penn and Princeton, Yale enters the weekend in a tie for first in the Ivy League standings with an8-6 overall record and 4-1 league mark. The Bulldogs' attack ranks third in the conference with 12.96 kps and a .231 hitting percentage.
Mollie Rogers is second in the Ivy League with 3.89 kps with the trio of Kelly Johnson (2.49) kps), Kaitlyn Gibbons (2.17) and Maya Midzik adding over 2.00 kps to Yale's attack. Kelsey Crawford has passed out 9.93 aps, good for second amongst the Ivies. Defensively, Maddie Rudnick and Rogers contributed 3.64 dps and 3.32 dps, respectively, with Claire Feeley adding 0.85 bps to the effort.
Inside the Series with Yale
Columbia and Yale will meet for the 42nd time Saturday with the Lions looking for their fourth win in the all-time series that they trail, 3-38.
Last Time Out
Columbia went the distance with Harvard in a back-and-forth affair Saturday night at Levien Gymnasium, but the Lions could not outlast the Crimson and fell, 2-3. The setback came by set scores of 23-25, 29-27, 19-25, 25-17 and 15-17.
Columbia counted on its defense at the net to remain in each set as the Lions totaled 21 blocks the most since posting 32 in three sets versus Princeton in 1991. Sophomore Kesi Neblett led Columbia's blocking charge with a career-high 10 as junior Katarina Jovicic matcher her career-best with nine. Classmate Atlanta Moye-McLaren also turned in a career-first with eight blocks.
Another defensive record fell Saturday night as Charlee Dyroff moved into fifth-place on the Lions' all-time digs list. The senior captain recorded 18 digs to push her total to 839 displacing Cindy Chen's '11CC 829 figure.
Bailey Springer poured in a season-high 22 kills on a .242 clip to lead a trio of Lions with double-digit kill efforts. The junior also contributed seven digs and five blocks. Moye-McLaren scored 14 kills, hitting .355 on the night, to record her 12th double-double of her career. Jovicic, who hit .471, notched 10 kills to round out Columbia's threesome with double-digit kills.

Block Party
Columbia has dominated the net this season and most recently posted 21 total blocks against Harvard, the most since record 32 versus Princeton in 1991. The Lions have turned in double-digit blocking totals three this year to lead the league with 2.23 bps.
Katarina Jovicic has been a staple at the net for Columbia this season as the junior leads the league and team with 1.13 bps. Kesi Neblett is not far behind as the sophomore posts 0.94 bps the sixth-best average among the Ivies.
Breaking Records
Charlee Dyroff broke into the Lions record book Saturday, Oct. 11 when the senior recorded 18 digs to push her career total to 839 displacing Cindy Chen's '11CC 829 figure. Dyroff, who averages the sixth-best digs per set average in the conference (4.25 dps), needs 67 digs to move into fourth place on Columbia's career list.
Club 1,000
Jennifer Petrovich became the newest member of Columbia's 1,000 assist club at Princeton Saturday, Oct. 4 when the sophomore set Caitlin Cole up for a kill in the second set versus the Tigers. Petrovich becomes the first player to eclipse the 1,000-assist plateau since Kelsey Mussleman '13CC did so in 2010.
Setting It Up
As the Lions' primary setter, Jennifer Petrovich has dished out the third-best assists per set average in the league with 9.66 handouts to lead Columbia to a .208 hitting percentage, which lands fourth in the Ivy League.
High Percentage
Katarina Jovicic hit a season-high .571 in the team's 3-2 setback at Connecticut, registering eight kills on 14 attempts with no errors. Jovicic's career-best hitting clip of .583 came Sept. 14, 2012 against Colgate (17-324). Currently the middle hitter ranks third in the Ivy League with a .363 hitting percentage and has hit over .300 in every outing except one. The Lions rank fourth in the conference with a .208 percentage.
Seeing Double
A trio of Lions have each contributed two double-double performances this season; Atlanta Moye-McLaren, Jennifer Petrovich and Bailey Springer. Moye-McLaren leads all current Lions with 12 in her career.

All-Tourney
Atlanta Moye-McLaren was named Most Valuable Player at the Columbia Invitational and classmate Katarina Jovicic earned a spot on the all-tournament team after the duo helped the Lions go 3-0. Jovicic picked up her second all-tournament team accolade of the season when the middle hitting was selected to the UConn Classic team Sept. 20.
Hall of Famer
Columbia volleyball will see its first former player inducted into the Columbia University Athletics Hall of Fame this October as Kathy Lavold '03BC has been bestowed the honor. The three-year letterwinning middle blocker etched her name throughout the Lions' record book and was a crucial member of Columbia's winningest season in 2000.
