
Pham, Rubin Qualify for Men's Tennis USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Main Draw

FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. - Eric Rubin and Richard Pham each posted two victories in the qualifying singles draw at the United Tennis Association (USTA)/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Championships at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center Thursday to earn spots in the singles main draw.
Rubin opened the regionals with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Bryant's Oliver Welsh. In the second round, the junior dropped Nicholai Westergaard of Penn, 6-5, 6-4, to punch his ticket into the main draw.
Pham clashed with Max Vogt of Bryant in the opening match. After dropping the first set, 4-6, the sophomore bounced back to take the match, 6-3, 6-2. Pham solidified his spot in the main draw with a 6-1, 6-2, win against Stony Brook's Tyler Hoffman.
Rubin and Pham will join seniors Winston Lin, Ashok Narayana, Max Schnur and Bert Vancura, and juniors Dragos Ignat and Mike Vermeer in the main draw. The unseeded main draw singles and doubles action is set to begin tomorrow with the seeded singles players and doubles teams set to begin action on Saturday, Oct. 18.
