
Milstein Advances to Main Draw at Women's Tennis USTA/ITA Northeast Regional

NEW HAVE, Conn. - Adi Milstein of the Columbia women's tennis team notched two victories in the qualifying draw to punch her ticket into the singles main draw at the United States Tennis Association (USTA)/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Championships at Yale's indoor venue, the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.
Milstein's regional journey started on Thursday, Oct. 16 with a 6-0 7-6(5) victory over Arielle Griffin of Massachusetts. The first-year continued her winning ways the following day as Milstein downed Boston University's Barbara Rodriguez, 7-5, 6-3, to advance to the singles main draw.
Milstein will join six of her teammates in the singles main draw that is slated to start Saturday at 8 a.m. Also competing for columbia is senior Crystal Leung, junior Kanika Vaidya, sophomore Tina Jiang and first-years Rima Asatrian and Alexandra Solovyev.
Following the qualifying matches on Friday, the main draw doubles opened and it featured two Lions' tandems; Jiang and Leung and Vaidya and Asatrian.
Jiang and Leung took down Princeton's Katrine Steffenson and Caroline Joyce, 8-4, but the 19th-ranked pair could not overcome Stony Brook's Adey Osabouhien and Elizabeth Tsvetkov, 8-7(3) and were eliminated in the second round.
Vaidya and Asatrian, who rank 41st in the ITA, swept Jennifer DeLuca and Amanda Pitocco of Providence, 8-0, and rolled past Karly Pang and Claire Scmitz of Marist, 8-1, to move onto the round of 16.
The third day of action at the regional championship is set to begin at 8 a.m. on the Bulldogs' campus.
