
All Columbia Final Ahead for Men's Tennis at USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championship

FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. - The Columbia men's tennis team's historic run continued Monday at the United States Tennis Association (USTA)/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as Winston Lin and Ashok Narayana are set to face with one another in the main draw singles final after toppling the rest of the 128-player bracket at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center.
Players have competed for an automatic entry into the 2014 USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships Nov. 6-9 at the National Tennis Center and with Lin and Narayana taking the court against one anther tomorrow means at least one Columbia player will punch their qualifying ticket to the tournament.
Lin, who is defending his 2013 regional title, met Dartmouth's Dovydas Sakiniks in the semifinals. The eighth-ranked singles player was no match for the 72nd-ranked athlete as Lin took down Sakiniks 7-5, 7-5.
The tournament's top seed awaited his opponent knowing that another Columbian would be opposite him in the finals as (5-8) Dragos Ignat and No. 108 Narayana dueled in the other semifinal match. It was Narayana that would come out victorious as the senior downed the junior, 7-5, 7-6.
The championship action is set to commence at 9 a.m. at the National Tennis Center.
