
Volleyball Blanks Dartmouth to Close 2014 Season

HANOVER, N.H. - The Columbia volleyball team got back back in the win column Saturday afternoon as the Lions cruised to a straight set victory over Dartmouth at the Leede Arena. The win came by set scores of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-19.
The Lions snapped their nine-match ski, with their last win coming at home over the Big Green Oct. 10, to finish 2014 8-15 overall and tied for sixth in the Ivy League with a 4-10 mark against Ancient Eight opponents.
Bailey Springer contributed her fourth double-double of the year with a match-high 14 kills and 12 digs. Zoe Jacobs added 10 kills to the winning effort with Jennifer Petrovich dishing out 33 assists.
On the defensive side of the net Cassie Wes posted 13 digs while Katarina Jovicic and Kesi Neblett turned in four blocks each.
Dartmouth (13-12, 4-10 Ivy League) received nine kills from Paige Caridi.
Columbia was determined to close the season on a high note as it opened the match on an 8-1 run. The Lions continued to roll, but the Big Green did not go down without a fight. Leading 15-10, the Lions surged ahead by nine, 21-12. Dartmouth made things intersting, but Jovicic's kill sealed the win 25-22.
Roles reversed in the second set with the Lions falling behind early 4-10. Columbia used an 8-2 stretch to level the second set at 12-all. A Dartmouth error tied the stanza for the second time before the Lions explode and scored 12 of the final 17 points to take the set 25-18.
The third stanza was a back-and-forth affair before Columbia scored four answered points to take an 18-13 edge. From there the Lions rolled to the 25-19 set win to take the match.
