QUICK HITS
COLUMBIA'S STATUS
The Lions dropped a heartbreaker, 57-56, on Friday night at Stony Brook despite leading for all but 1:18 of the game. Rayshuan McGrew's tip-in off a missed free throw with 13 seconds left gave the Seawolves the win as they opened their new arena.
THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME
Columbia is 81-32 all-time in home openers and have won five of its last six debuts in Levien Gymnasium after dispatching Maryland-Eastern Shore last year, 73-54.
COLUMBIA VS. THE NEC
Against schools currently in the Northeast Conference, the Lions hold a 33-22 all-time record. Columbia's most common NEC foe is St. Francis Brooklyn, who they are 10-8 against. The Lions also play two more NEC programs, Fairleigh Dickinson next week and the Terriers at the end of December.
SCHOOL TIES
While in high shool at St. Benedict's Prep in New Jersey, senior guard Steve Frankoski played for current Wagner head coach Bashir Mason and Seahawks assistant Scott Smith while the two were assistants under legendary head coach Bob Hurley, Sr.
BLOCK PARTY
With his two rejections at Stony Brook on Nov. 14, senior Cory Osetkowski moved into a tie for fifth place on the career block list with former teammate Mark Cisco '13CC.
THE LO DOWN
Junior guard Maodo Lo picked up right where he left off last season, netting 19 points and tying a career-best with four steals in the season opener at Stony Brook on Nov. 14. For his efforts, he earned a spot on the Ivy League Weekly Honor Roll.
