PRINCETON, N.J. – For the second straight year Bailey Springer of the Columbia volleyball team has been named to the All-Ivy League volleyball second team, the league office announced Thursday afternoon.
As a junior, Springer picked up the second-team accolade thanks to 3.40 kps, which ranks third among the Ivies. The outside hitter from Ft. Worth, Texas, led the Lions offense 14 times on the 8-15 overall, 4-11 Ancient Eight season. Springer also contributed on the defensive side of the net for the Lions as she registered four double-doubles and recorded double-digit digs on five occasions.
Springer helped Columbia post a variety of milestones in the opening campaign of the Brie Katz era. The Lions opened the season 3-0 for the first time since 2009 and matched a five-match home win streak that came in 2012 with a 5-0 stretch inside Levien Gymnasium to open the season. With a nine-kill, nine-dig effort Springer helped Columbia sweep Penn Friday, Oct. 3 for its first victory inside The Palestra in program history. At Cornell Saturday, Oct. 25, Springer chipped in 15-digs to the Lions' 112 total digs to mark the first-time they had 100-plus digs since notching 101 versus Boston College Sept. 13, 2013.
