The Lions wasted no time out of the gates as Columbia went ahead early 6-3. The momentum continued as a kill from Anja Malesevic pushed the advantage to 11-6 as Brown took its first timeout of the set. Out of the break, a 5-0 fun with Malesevic at the service line pushed Columbia's lead to 16-6. The Bears used its second timeout of the set, but it did not stop the Lions as they cruised to the 25-14 victory.
The team's traded points to open the second stanza before Brown used a 4-0 run to take a 10-6 edge over Columbia. The Lions climbed back 6-1 stretch that included two aces by Cassie Wes to take a 12-11 edge. The lead was short lived, however, as the Bears rattled off five answered points to bring the score to 16-12. For the second time in the stanza it was the Lions servers that brought them back. Petrovich served back-to-back aces to make it a one-point frame before Malesevic chipped in her second of the night to make it 20-all. The score flip-flopped and tied twice more before Brown jumped ahead by two and sealed the 25-23 win off a Lions attack error.
Columbia rocketed out to an 18-12 lead in the third frame, but things did not go as planned for the Lions. Brown clawed its way back and leveled the match at 20 before going ahead 22-21. The score flip flopped, but it was the Bears that coupled to back-to-back scores to take the set 25-22.
Brown opened a 10-6 lead in the fourth, but the Lions came charing back and evened the match at 12-12. Despite the comeback, Columbia could not old on as the Bears eventually took the set, 22-25, to finish the match.
Columbia will be back in action next weekend as it wraps up its season on the road. The Lions will first take the court at Harvard Friday, Nov. 14 before facing Dartmouth Saturday, Nov. 16 in the season finale.
