Lowdown on the Lions
After opening the season 3-0 roles reversed for Columbia at the Colonials Challenge last weekend as the team fell against first-time opponents George Washington (0-3), Illinois State (0-3) and Baylor (0-3) to move to 3-3 on the year.
Bailey Springer has been an offensive staple for the Lions with a team-best 3.56 kps, which lands second in the Ivy League. Atlanta Moye-McLaren and Katarina Jovicic add to the offensive with 2.33 kps and 2.32 kps, respectively. As Columbia's setter, Jennifer Petrovich dishes out 9.65 aps, which is good for second in the conference. Charlee Dyroff boasts 3.89 dps to lead the defensive efforts as Cassie Wes adds 3.38 dps and Jovicic turns away 0.58 bps.
Hustling with the Huskies
Coming off two victories at the Bucknell Tournament, Connecticut brings a 5-3 record into the weekend. The Huskies' attack is led by Devon Maugle, who averages 2.94 kps, while Kenya Cason and Immanuella Anagua add 2.52 kps and 2.41 kps, respectively. Rebecca Rivera (5.69 aps) and Sage Esposito (4.00 aps) have split time at the setter position. On the defensive side of the net, Anagua's 1.31 bps leads the Huskies and Brianna Datti contributes 4.47 dps.
Inside the Series with Connecticut
The Lions and the Huskies will meet for the second time in program history. In the team's first meeting in 1989, the 3-0 victory went in favor of Connecticut.
Prowl on the Pride
Hofstra, who plays Bryant prior to Saturday's clash with the Lions, enter the match 9-2, having won seven in straight sets. Kelsie Wills has paced the Pride's attack with 3.97 kps while adding a 0.74 bps and 2.58 dps on the defensive side. Emily Burke has chipped in 2.47 kps on a .292 hitting clip. Hannah Kelmm has handled the setting duties with 10.46 aps. At the net, Nuria Lopes da Silva contributes 1.32 bps as Sophia Black's 3.05 dps also adds to the defensive effort.
Inside the Series with Hofstra
Saturday's meeting between the Lions and the Pride will mark the fourth meeting between the in-state rivals. Columbia downed Hofstra in a five-set thriller in 2012, but trails the series 1-2.
Breaking Down the Bulldogs
Bryant looks to snap a five-match losing streak that pushed its record to 3-11 after being swept by Hartford Tuesday night. The Bulldogs are led offensively by Elena Lohr who has posted 3.02 kps and Sara DePouw ho has notched 2.60 kps. Vika Nesterov has shouldered the load as the team's setter, having averaged 8.46 aps. On the defensive side Debora Magalhaes has turned in 5.26 dps with Alexandra Lunsford adding 0.88 bps.
Inside the Series with Bryant
In the team's last meeting in 2012, the Lions knocked off the Bulldogs, 3-2. Despite the victory, Columbia still trails the all-time series that dates back to 2004, 1-2.
Last Time Out
Columbia lost to Baylor 3-0 in the Lions' final matchup of the George Washington Colonials Challenge.
