PHILADELPHIA – Despite holding a 20-7 edge in shots, the Columbia field hockey team fell at La Salle, 2-1, in overtime Sunday to round out non-conference play. The Lions dropped to 9-7 with the defeat.
After a scoreless first half, Anna Scipioni gave Columbia the lead on a penalty stroke goal for her fifth tally of the year.
The Explorers (9-9) wasted little time drawing even after securing a penalty corner in the 59th minute. Abbey Lawrence found room to the far corner for her fifth of the season after the initial play was broken up.
The score remained deadlocked until two minutes into the extra session. Jenica Miller passed to Emily Las Vasey at the top of the circle. Kimberly Pianucci got a piece of the attempt, but did not get enough as the ball trickled into the net.
Meredith Kalberer led all players with five attempts.
The Lions wrap up the 2015 season against Harvard next Sunday, Nov. 8 at 12 p.m. on Senior Day.
