NEW YORK – Senior Maodo Lo hit his 190th career 3-pointer to break the Columbia men's basketball career record in the Lions, 88-61, triumph over Lehigh Sunday afternoon. Columbia shot 66.7 percent from the field and 7-of-10 from long range in the second half to even its record at 2-2.
Lo eclipsed the old mark of 189 previously held by Matt Shannon '89CC and finished with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting to go with five steals.
Both teams started well on the offensive end, combining to knock down eight of the first 12 shots of the game. A 15-2 run opened up a 28-14 lead after Lo's long trey with the shot clock winding down at the 6:43 mark of the first half.
Petrasek put the exclamation point on things with a posterizing dunk over a Lehigh defender to give the Lions a 40-22 advantage with 1:21 before the break as his team took a 19-point cushion into the break.
In the second half, Columbia's “big three” took over. The Mountain Hawks (0-4) stepped up defensively in the opening moments, but Grant Mullins knocked down a couple of key shots to keep Columbia in front, 52-35, with 13:06 to play. Alex Rosenberg buried a pair from beyond the arc to give the Lions a 21-point advantage with 8:54 on the clock.
Lo tied the mark with 6:48 remaining in the second half to halt a 7-0 spurt by Lehigh. Just over a minute later, Petrasek reversed the ball to the Berlin native, who knocked down the landmark shot from the right wing.
Petrasek finished with 13 points and eight rebounds. Rosenberg chipped in 15.
