NEW YORK – For the second consecutive night, the Columbia men's basketball team was on the wrong end of a one-point game, falling to Longwood, 70-69, Saturday night. The Lancers' (3-4) used a layup by Chris Fields with six seconds remaining to hand the Lions (3-4) their first home loss of the season.

After trailing for the entire night, Kanayo Obi-Rapu knocked down a pair of 3-pointers to give Longwood a 65-62 advantage with 2:55 to play. The Lancers extended the lead to four with 29 seconds to play, but Grant Mullins knocked down his career-best seventh trey to keep Columbia alive six seconds later.

Mullins then came up with a steal and found Alex Rosenberg under the basket, who was fouled with 17 seconds on the clock. After Rosenberg sank both tries, Leron Fisher drove down the lane and slipped a pass to Fields for two points.

The Lions had one last chance, but Rosenberg's off-balance attempt was well off the mark to end the game.

Petrasek with first five points and drew a charge to spur an 8-0 run to start the game and led by as many as 12 points in the first half. Columbia was in control the entire way, but Longwood's strong rebounding and zone defense, which forced the Lions to take 18 of their 28 first half shots from beyond the arc, kept them in the game and trailed just 34-28 at the break.

After shooting just 29.6 percent in the first half, Longwood converted on 65.2 percent in the second half.

Mullins had a monster game with 23 points, seven rebounds, six assists, with no turnovers, and a pair of steals in 36 minutes of action.

Fisher posted 18 points, eight assists and five boards for the Lancers. Obi-Rapu went 4-of-6 from downtown and added 15.

The Lions return to action Wednesday, Dec. 2 at Bucknell. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. Fans can hear the action live on the Ivy League Digital Network.
