
UPDATE: No. 7 Columbia Falls To No. 6 Cornell At CSA Nationals (Playoff Match Cancelled)

Cambridge, Mass. – The No. 7 Columbia women's squash team returned to Harvard's Barnaby Courts for the opening Howe Cup (A Division) consolation round on Saturday, Feb. 14. The Lions took on No. 6 Cornell for its second Ivy League opponent of the tournament. The Big Red handed Columbia a 1-8 loss on the Valentine's Day afternoon.
At #8, Leah Barnet grabbed Columbia's sole victory over Cornell's Reut Odinak. Barnet held strong to close the fifth game for a 3-2 win (11-6, 8-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-9).
Due to severe weather conditions, the Howe Cup consolation playoff match was cancelled. Despite the cancelation, the Lions still hang their heads high to cap the 2015 campaign with its best national finish in program history.
With a 7-9 overall record, Columbia earns a top-eight national ranking to culminate the year. The Lions saw a number spectacular performances this season, including an upset win over Stanford and its first victory over Ivy League foe Dartmouth.
Up next, a few members of the women's squash team will prepare for the CSA Individual Nationals set to begin Friday, Feb. 27.
DAY ONE
On Friday, Feb. 13, Columbia competed in the opening round of the Howe Cup at the CSA National Championships. The Lions took on a tall order in reining Ivy League champions No. 2 Penn at Harvard's Barnaby Courts, the teams' second meeting in six days. The Quakers overwhelmed Columbia with a 0-9 defeat to advance to the semifinals.
