QUICK HITS
COLUMBIA'S STATUS
The Lions are coming off their first road sweep since 2008 after knocking off Brown and Yale last weekend. Maodo Lo earned Co-Player of the Week after posting 35 and 18 points, respectively.
DARTMOUTH'S STATUS
The Big Green earned a split last weekend, falling against Princeton before topping Penn. Dartmouth received key contributions from Alex Mitola and Tommy Carpenter, who netted 18 and 13 points, respectively, in the win over the Quakers.
HARVARD'S STATUS
The Crimson kept rolling, knocking off Penn and Princeton at home to improve to 9-1 in the Ivy League standings. Harvard trailed by as many as 14 points, but rallied in the second half to pick up a seven-point win over the Tigers Saturday night.
SERIES HISTORY VS. DARTMOUTH
Friday will be the 298th time Columbia and Dartmouth get together. The Lions lead the all-time series 109-98 going back to 1905-06.
SERIES HISTORY VS. HARVARD
Columbia and Harvard will meet for the 174th time with the Lions holding a 94-79 edge in the series. The Crimson have won the last four meetings and 10 of the last 11.
COLUMBIA WELCOMES BACK FRANK THOMAS
Columbia Athletics is proud to announce that it will welcome back Frank Thomas '56CC to celebrate the 60th anniversary of him breaking the men's basketball single-season rebounding record at halftime of the Lions game against Dartmouth on Friday, February 27. At 6-4, Thomas played center and cleaned the glass like no other Lion has ever done. He still remains the only Columbia player to eclipse 1,000 career rebounds and Thomas' 1,022 boards ranks ninth on the all-time Ivy League list. During his stellar 1954-55 season, the Brooklyn native compiled 408 rebounds. For all of his accomplishments, he was enshrined into the Columbia Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010.
WEEKEND MILESTONES
After wins over Brown and Yale on Feb. 20-21, Columbia achieved its first Ivy League road sweep since 2008 when they knocked off Dartmouth and Harvard. It was also the first time the Lions picked up wins in Providence and New Haven since Feb. 25-26 of 2000.
A PERFORMANCE FOR THE AGES
Maodo Lo's 35 points at Brown on Feb. 20 was the most for a Lion since Dragutin Kravic posted 35 against Yale in 2004. Not only is it the highest scoring output in the Ivy League this season, it's the most points from anyone in the Ancient Eight since Sean McGonagill of Brown scored 39 in 2011. Additionally, Lo's 14 made field goals established a Pizzatola Sports Center mark, previously held by Penn's Matt Maloney.
MOST GAMES PLAYED
When Cory Osetkowski takes the floor against Harvard on Saturday, it will mark his 112th career appearance for the Lions, which will set a new program record currently held by Mark Cisco.
HONORING THE SENIORS
Prior to Saturday night's Harvard game, Columbia Athletics will honor seniors Steve Frankoski, Cory Osetkowski and Noah Springwater for their dedication and hard work over their careers.
THE LO-DOWN ON MAODO
Junior Maodo Lo became just the 27th member of Columbia's 1,000-point club this season after drilling a 3-pointer at the 7:47 mark of the first half at Dartmouth on Feb. 14. He currently sits with 1,059 points, which is 19th on the all-time scoring list. Lo also has 161 career makes from downtown, putting him fifth among the Lions' career leaders.
KLEPTOMANIAC
Maodo Lo put his name on another record list last weekend after registering four steals at Brown. Lo now has 98 steals to put him ninth on the all-time list and four shy of moving into eighth place. He is currently third in the Ancient Eight in the category, averaging 1.5 swipes per contest.
LET IT RAIN
Columbia's 10 treys at Harvard on Feb. 13 marked the eighth time this season the Lions have knocked down 10 or more shots from downtown. Columbia's 8.8 triples per game lead the Ivy League and ranks 18th in the NCAA.
QUAKER DOMINATION
The Lions 27-point victory (83-56) over Penn on Feb. 7 was its largest margin of victory in an Ivy League game since Jan. 30, 2004, when the Lions defeated Dartmouth, 78-42. It was also one point shy of the most decisive win in the series against the Quakers.
AGENT 0
First-year Kyle Castlin's scoring average of 10.0 points per game and 84.5 free throw percentage leads all Ancient Eight neophytes. He has started all 24 games for Columbia and has a trio of Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors under his belt (Dec. 22, Jan. 5, Feb. 2).
FRANKIE SAYS RELAX
Columbia's top threat off the bench has been senior Steve Frankoski. The tri-captain is in fourth place on the all-time 3-point field goal list (166). He sits eight behind K.J. Matsui for third place.
GLUE GUY
Every team needs one and that's what the Lions have in junior Isaac Cohen. The 6-4 guard is currently third in the Ivy League in assists at 4.2 per game and is pulling down 5.5 rebounds per game, which is the best among guards in the Ancient Eight. Cohen narrowly missed posting just the third Ivy League triple-double ever with his eight-point, 10-rebound, nine-assist effort against Stony Brook on Jan. 6.
LOCKING IT UP
Columbia held opponents under 50 points for the fifth time after giving up 45 to Cornell on Jan. 17. The Lions did not surrender 50 points in three straight games from Nov. 23-29 for the first time since 2002 when the Lions did it in four consecutive games from Jan. 15-Feb. 1. (At Albany - L, 40-41, Cornell - W, 56-40, at Cornell - W, 54-42, at Princeton - L, 41-49).
