NEW YORK – Dartmouth shot 60.4 percent from the field and 6-of-11 from 3-point range as they defeated the Columbia men's basketball team, 84-71, Friday night. First-year Kyle Castlin led the way with 18 points, nine rebounds and six assists.
Maodo Lo added 15 points while Cory Osetkowski chipped in seven points and six rebounds.
The Big Green (11-14, 4-7) opened up an otherwise close game with a 14-4 run midway through the second half to take a 69-55 lead with 5:19 on the clock to claim the victory.
Dartmouth raced out to a 6-0 lead early on, but Steve Frankoski buried two early treys to get the Lions (13-12, 5-6) back on track. Lo followed with the next nine points, all on 3-pointers, to give Columbia a 20-15 lead with 11:14 left in the first half.
John Golden answered back with five in a row to tie the score and the teams traded baskets for nearly the rest of the half as the Big Green held a 40-38 edge at the break.
Lo was forced to sit after picking up his third foul less than a minute into the second half. Despite that, Castlin put the Lions on top, 46-44, at the 14:58 mark. After the teams went back-and-forth the next few minutes, Dartmouth went on its outburst.
Golden led eight Big Green players in double-figures with 18 points.
Columbia shot just 35.5 percent from the floor and 9-of-34 (26.5 percent) from downtown.
Columbia will wrap up its home slate against Harvard on Saturday, February 28 at 7 p.m. Advance tickets are sold out, but there will be a limited number of standing room only seats sold at the Box Office located on the corner of 120th Street and Broadway on game day.
