
Harvard Spoils Senior Night for Men's Basketball; Top Lions, 80-70

NEW YORK – Maodo Lo scored 33 points, but Harvard led wire-to-wire in an 80-70 victory over the Columbia men's basketball team on senior night. The Lions record fell to 13-13 overall and 5-7 in Ivy League play.
Lo shot 13-of-21 from the floor and tied a career-best with five steals.Cory Osetkowski add six points, six rebounds and six assists.
Like the night before against Dartmouth, Columbia found themselves behind 6-0 just two minutes into the contest. The Lions settled in and nine points from Lo made it 17-16 Crimson (20-6, 10-2) with 8:57 left in the first half.
However, Harvard responded with a 10-0 run to gain separation and took a 37-24 lead into the locker room.
Both offenses started the second half strong, which helped the Crimson maintain a double-figure margin five minutes into the frame. The Lions finally chipped away at their deficit with an 11-2 run to pull within, 48-44 at the 12:07 mark.
Columbia stayed within striking distance until Harvard's Corbin Miller caught fire, scoring all of his 14 points in a span of 4:41 to bring the lead back up to 68-53 with 5:42 on the clock. From there, the Crimson never looked back.
Wesley Saunders paced the Harvard attack with 21 points, going 11-of-13 from the foul line. Steve Mondou-Missi had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
The Crimson shot 58.7 percent from the floor and knocked down 4-of-6 from long range in the second half. The Lions shot 63 percent in the second half and 53.1 percent for the game.
Columbia will finish up the regular season on the road, starting with a visit to Penn at the Palestra on Friday, March 6 at 7 p.m. Live video and audio will be available on the Ivy League Digital Network.
Game notes: Cory Osetkowski played in his 112th career game, setting a new program record… Lo moved past Russ Steward for 18th place on the all-time scoring list and now has 1,107 career points… Lo became just the ninth player to eclipse 100 career steals and his 103 swipes puts him tied for seventh with Noruwa Agho… Levien Gymnasium was a sell-out for the third time this season… United States Attorney General Eric Holder was in attendance.
