
Men's Basketball Teams from 1976-79 to Reunite to Highlight Alumni Weekend

NEW YORK – Columbia will honor some of its most successful men's basketball teams when they welcome back a group of players that played from 1976-79 to highlight the program's alumni weekend. The reunited former Lions' will be honored during halftime of Columbia's February 7 contest against Penn.
From the 1976-77 season to 1978-79, Columbia compiled an overall record of 48-30 and 29-13 in Ivy League play. Under the direction of Tom Penders along with the stellar play of standouts Ricky Free and Alton Byrd, the Lions posted an 11-3 mark in the Ancient Eight in 1977-78 to finish second in the conference, narrowly missing out on the Ivy League crown.
