NEW YORK – Princeton shot 54.2 percent from the field and 9-of-15 (60 percent) from downtown to top the Columbia men's basketball team, 74-62, Friday night. The Lions dropped to 10-9 overall and 2-3 in Ivy League play.
Maodo Lo scored a game-high 21 points on 6-of-11 shooting and added five rebounds.
Columbia's first five field goals were all from beyond the mark as they raced out to a 17-10 lead on a Luke Petrasek triple with 11:20 left in the first half. The Tigers (10-10, 3-1) answered with a 7-2 rally to pull within two points less than two minutes later.
Kendall Jackson put the Lions on top, 24-19, off a nice hesitation drive to the bucket with 7:41 left before another Princeton run. The Tigers outscored Columbia 11-2 over the next 3:32 to take their largest lead of the half, 31-26.
The Lions netted the next five to even things up with 1:59 to go in the period, but Hans Brase capped the first half scoring with a layup with 48 seconds left to put Princeton ahead, 33-31, at the half.
Columbia closed within one twice early in the second half, but could not get over the hump and take the lead. Back-to-back triples by Brase and Steven Cook extended the Tigers margin to 54-44 with 10:25 to go and never looked back.
Brase scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Princeton.
Columbia is back in action against Penn on Saturday, February 7, at 7 p.m. The contest is sold out, but a limited number of standing room only seats will be sold at the box office located on the corner of 120th Street and Broadway. Fans can also catch the action live on the Ivy League Digital Network.
Game notes: Lo now has 957 points to pass Dave Newmark '68CC for 29th on the career scoring list… Lo also has 151 made triples to move into sixth place on the all-time list.
