
Squash Caps Historical Regular Season In Home Finale

NEW YORK – The Columbia squash program capped a historical regular season on Sunday, Feb. 8 as they hosted Penn in its home finale at the SL Green StreetSquash Center. With 'A Division' national championship hopes in reach for both the No. 4 men and No. 7 women's team, the excitement was buzzing through the air for the Lions.
Columbia also honored the senior class who played their final collegiate home matches, including Mohamed AbdelMaksoud, Kate Calihan, Alisha Maity, Alex Nalle, Tarun Nambiar, Kyul Rhee, Danial Saleem and Ramit Tandon.
The men's team took down No. 10 Penn, 7-2, for an impressive home victory. The Lions finished the regular season with an outstanding 12-2 overall record and a 6-1 Ivy League record to garner its highest finish in conference play as the Ivy League runner-up. With a current No. 4 ranking, Columbia looks poised to make its first run in the Potter Cup for a national title.
Although the women's team fell to Ivy League Champion No. 2 Penn, 0-9, the Lions close the year with a 7-7 overall record and 2-5 Ivy League record in a conference that holds seven teams in the top-10 national rankings. Columbia currently ranks No. 7 in the latest pool and is in solid postion to earn its first trip to compete for the Howe Cup.
Up next, the women's team will use this week to prepare for the Women's CSA Team National Championships in Cambridge, Massachusetts, from Friday, Feb. 13 to Sunday, Feb. 15. The men's team will travel to Hatford, Connecticut, a week later from Friday, Feb. 20 to Sunday, Feb. 22, to compete in the Men's CSA Team National Championships.
