Heavyweight Rowing Returns to Overpeck Park to Host Penn, Yale for Blackwell Cup

NEW YORK – The Columbia heavyweight rowing team will return to Overpeck Park to host Penn and Yale for the Blackwell Cup this Saturday. The day of racing is slated to begin at 9 a.m.
COLUMBIA'S STATUS
The Lions, ranked No. 18 in the April 15 USRowing Coaches Poll, finished behind Princeton and Penn in all four races in last week's Childs Cup Regatta.
PENN'S STATUS
Penn moved up one spot to No. 7 in this week's USRowing Coaches Poll after finishing second behind No. 3 Princeton in three races and in first in the final race at the Childs Cup Regatta.
YALE'S STATUS
Yale comes into the Blackwell Cup ranked No. 5 in the USRowing Coaches Poll. The Yale heavyweight crew team beat Dartmouth last weekend to win the Olympic Axe for the 12th consecutive year.
A LOOK BACK
Yale took home last year's Blackwell Cup after beating Columbia and Penn in the first and third varsity eight races. Columbia head coach Scott Alwin described the second varsity eight race as a “barnburner,” with only 2.5 seconds separated first place Penn and third place Yale.
