
Heavyweights Gear Up For IRA National Championships This Weekend

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The Columbia heavyweight rowing team will take two crews to the IRA National Championships this weekend on Mercer Lake. The preliminary heats begin on Friday morning, followed by the semifinal rounds Saturday and the petite and grand finals Sunday.
The Lions varsity eight placed eighth overall and second in the petite final at Eastern Sprints to weekends ago to secure a bid to the National Championships. Columbia finished five spots higher than its original seed. The opening heat will take place on Friday at 8:15 a.m.
In the second varsity eight at EARC's, the Lions turned in a sixth place finish in the petite final. The 2V's are slated for a 9:30 a.m. race in the prelims.
