
Volleyball Heads To Texas To Open 2015 Season

NEW YORK – The Columbia University Volleyball team kicks off the 2015 season this weekend as it heads to Nacogdoches, Texas, to compete in the Hampton Inn and Suites Stephen F. Austin Tournament on Sept. 4-5.
The Lions will open play with matchups against Texas Tech (11 a.m. ET) and South Dakota State (3:30 p.m. ET) on Friday before rounding out the weekend against host-Stephen F. Austin on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET.
This weekend's tournament will mark the first time in program history that the Lions have faced any of the three teams.
A Look At Texas Tech (3-0):
Texas Tech kicked off the 2015 season in style last weekend, taking a 3-0 sweep to earn the Texas Tech Fall Invitational title with wins over Utah State (3-0), Louisiana-Lafayette (3-0) and Houston (3-1).
Senior Carlie Foust was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career after posting up a conference-leading 61 digs in three matches while adding four aces during the opening weekend of action.
A Look At South Dakota State (0-4):
South Dakota State struggled in its season opener last weekend, dropping four-straight matches to head to Texas at 0-4.
The Jackrabbits are led by Ashley Beaner who is averaging 2.22 kills per set after playing in three of the team's first four matches.
South Dakota State struggled on the serves, however, in the openeing four games, allowing 34 combined service aces while only adding eight of their own.
A Look At Stephen F. Austin (0-3):
Picked as the favorite to win the 2015 Southland Conference regular season, the Ladyjacks opened the year with an 0-3 start at a very competitive Auburn Tournament last weekend.
Stephen F. Austin went to five sets in two of its three matches, battling against Auburn and Jacksonville, while falling in a sweep to Samford.
The Ladyjacks also saw four members of the squad earn preseason all-conference honors heading into the year: Jacque Allen, Justice Walker, OJ Olson and Tori Bates.
