NEW YORK – Jeff Coby's 20 points and 13 rebounds guided the Columbia men's basketball team to a 96-68 triumph over Central Penn Saturday night to round out non-conference play. The Lions improved to 11-6 with the victory.
Columbia held a 61-34 advantage on the glass, helped by Coby and a career-best 11 boards from first-year CJ Davis.
Grant Mullins notched a game-high 21 points, going 8-of-12 from the floor, and added six rebounds and four assists. Luke Petrasek narrowly missed a double-double, finishing with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Coby provided the spark off the bench for the second straight game, posting nine points and five boards in just five minutes to help Columbia go in front, 11-9, with 13:42 before the break. From there, the teams traded runs before an 8-1 spurt by the Lions towards the end of the frame put them ahead, 44-37, at the 2:34 mark.
After hitting six 3-pointers in the first half, the Knights (14-8) were held to just one in the second half and were limited to 34.3 percent shooting after the break. Central Penn trimmed their five-point halftime deficit to 46-43 with 18:34 remaining before Columbia put its foot on the gas. Five quick points by Coby brought the lead to double-digits for the first time just over two minutes later and the Lions never looked back.
