NEW YORK — Winners of four straight, the Columbia volleyball team continues its longest homestand in program history this weekend with a pair of Ivy League matches against Yale and Brown. The Lions take on Yale on Friday at 7 p.m., followed by a Saturday evening matchup with Brown at 5 p.m. Both matches will be streamed live from Levien Gymnasium on the Ivy League Digital Network.
SCOUTING YALE: Yale enters Friday night's contest winners of three straight, which includes a 3-0 sweep of Brown in its Ivy League opener last Friday in Providence ... The Bulldogs lead the Ivy League in aces per set (1.52) and are among the top three in the conference in hitting percentage (.235), opponent hitting percentage (.169), digs per set (15.39), assists per set (12.00) and kills per set (12.82) ... Brittani Steinberg is the team's leading attacker, boasting a team-best 94 kills (2.85/set) with a hitting percentage of .197 ... Steinberg also ranks fourth in the conference in aces per set (0.39) with a team-best total of 13 aces on the season.
INSIDE THE SERIES: The Bulldogs hold a 41-4 lead in the all-time series, but it was Columbia who took down the Bulldogs the last time the two teams squared off … The Lions defeated Yale in five sets (25-9, 25-23, 18-25, 19-25, 15-12) last October 31 in New York, topping the Bulldogs for the first time in 14 years … Prior to that, Yale had won 27 consecutive series meetings dating back to 2002.

SCOUTING BROWN: Brown owns two wins on the 2016 campaign, taking down Bryant in four sets (Sep. 3) and Central Connecticut State in five (Sep. 17) ... The Bears lost five straight matches from Sep. 7-16, falling to Providence, UC Santa Barbara, San Francisco, St. John's and Binghamton ... They rank among the bottom half of the Ivy League in most statistical categories, including last in assists per set (10.10), digs per set (12.64) and kills per set (11.05) ... Makena Ehlert is the offensive leader with a team-best 104 kills (2.48/set) ... Elhert hits .187 and is also second on the team in digs with 90 (2.14/set) ... Six Bears boast at least 10 blocks this season, led by 25 from Jacqueline Jacobs (0.93/set) ... Sarah Lucenti ranks just ahead of Yale's Steinberg in aces per set (0.43), which is also top 50 nationally.
INSIDE THE SERIES: The Bears hold a 33-15 lead in the all-time series, but Columbia has is 10-4 against Brown since 2009 … The Lions won nine consecutive series meetings from 2009-13, and also defeated Brown the last time the two sides met, sweeping the Bears at Levien Gymnasium (25-22, 25-15, 25-16) on October 30, 2015 … Columbia is 6-1 in the last seven series meetings in New York.
LAST TIME OUT (Sept. 24): Led by sophomore Ara Peterson's career-high 15 kills and .619 hitting percentage, Columbia came back from two sets down to defeat Cornell (14-25, 22-25, 27-25, 25-21, 15-9) in its 2016 Ivy League opener … Columbia saved three match points in the third set after trailing 24-22 … First-year setter Grace Campbell tallied a season-high 53 assists … Senior libero Cassie Wes recorded a career-high 31 digs, which tied for the third-most in a single match in program history.

CAMPBELL SELECTED ROOKIE OF THE WEEK (Sep. 26): First-year setter Grace Campbell is the reigning Ivy League Rookie of the Week, earning the honors this past Monday ... Campbell set for a season-high 53 assists to help the Lions come back from two sets down and defeat Cornell this past Saturday, averaging 10.6 assists per set and assisting all nine of Columbia's kills in the fifth set ... Campbell also added three kills on four attempts and five digs.
TWO-SET COMEBACK (Sep. 24): Columbia came back from a two-set deficit to defeat Cornell last Saturday (14-25, 22-25, 27-25, 25-21, 15-9) ... The Lions saved three match points in the third set, trailing 24-22 and 25-24, before rallying to win the final three points of the set, along with sets four and five ... It marked the first two-set comeback for Columbia since September 11, 2015 against Northeastern, and the first in Ivy League play in exactly five years, which also came against Cornell on September 24, 2011 in Ithaca, N.Y. … The dramatic victory landed Columbia at No. 3 on the #IvyTop5 Plays of the Week.

OPENING DAY DOMINANCE: With Saturday's victory, Columbia improved to 7-1 in its last eight Ivy League openers ... Each of the last eight openers have come against Cornell ... The Lions have not lost a conference opener at home since 2007.
FOUR IN A ROW: The Lions head into the weekend having won their last four matches, marking the team's longest winning streak since ending the 2012 campaign with five straight wins … The longest winning streak is program history is nine, which was achieved from September 4-29, 2010.
STARTING HOT: Columbia will be looking to start 2-0 in Ivy League play for the fourth time in the last six seasons, also doing so in 2014, 2012 and 2011 … Even with all those recent 2-0 starts, Columbia has never started the Ivy League schedule 3-0, but will do so for the first time if it can defeat both Yale and Brown.
HOME SWEET HOME: After beginning the season 0-4, Columbia has rebounded by winning six of its last seven matches, all of which have come inside the friendly confines of Levien Gymnasium ... The Lions are 6-2 in matches played in New York this season, going 2-1 at the Columbia Classic, 3-1 in the Lion Invitational, and defeating Cornell last weekend, 3-2, in the 2016 Ivy League opener ... Columbia will continue to play at home over the course of the next two weeks, making for 12 straight home contests from September 9 – October 8 ... It will mark the team's longest homestand in program history, beating out a span of eight straight home matches from September 10 – September 29, 2010 ... The Lions also had a notable stretch of home matches from September 11 – October 17, 2009, in which they played 14 of 16 at Levien Gymnasium.
