Hanover, NH- Osama Khalifa won the CSA individual championship today, marking the first ever national champion from Columbia.
Khalifa defeated Rochester's fifth ranked Mario Yanez in three sets (11-1, 11-6, 11-5) to clinch the Pool Trophy (A Division) title.
Ranked No. 1 going into the Pool Trophy tournament, Khalifa got through Drexel's No. 30 Bransten Ming, Bates College's No. 6 Ahmed Hatata and Trinity's No. 2 Thoboki Mohohlo to reach the final match.
The junior capped off his impressive season, in which he went 15-1. His only loss came against Harvard's Saadeldin Aboudaish. Khalifa avenged his loss to Aboudaish at team nationals.
No. 1 ranked Khalifa will be back in action for Columbia next season for his senior campaign.
